IS JR AN URBAN DESIGNER or A STREET ARTIST?
JR’s work throughout the world, is exploring contrasted identities & cultures and the limits of our societies, and gives a new sense to photography as a street art medium, interacting with people as if they were staging themselves. Moreover, JR huge format posts are displayed to be directly visible to the sight of people who most of the time are living under the poverty line, who never go to exhibitions. Wrapping Brazilian favelas walls or staircases in the centre of Rio, collapsed buildings in Haiti or kicked down houses in downtown LA appears as a desperate cry to humanity.
